As interior designers, it’s important to not only capture the beauty of your brand, but your art too! While I always recommend a brand shoot for your business, interior design photography is just as important! So what is it, and how does that differ from a branding session? Let’s talk about the ins and outs of interior design photography, and why I suggest a separate session for these two big days!
You’ll need photos for two different purposes – showcasing your brand and showcasing your work. I suggest doing these on two different days. You can give all your energy and brain power to each day. It’s hard to be the subject of a photo shoot and be working on the photoshoot for the interiors section at the same time. And from the photographer’s side, the lighting and the setup for photography are completely different.
Interior Design Photography vs Brand Photography
Interior photography is all about getting that perfect shot. The camera will be tethered to a laptop so that your art can be viewed in real time. This setup helps ensure that every detail, from the rug pattern to the lighting, is captured perfectly and the way you envisioned it. Typically, a tripod is used for the extra bit of precision. Slow shutter speeds for crisp portraits, and well-lit images to capture the true tones of everything.
Brand photography is all about capturing your personality and your style as an interior designer. You will be moving, laughing, smiling, and really showing off your personality. While some moments may be posed, candid, and more relaxed, natural moments will be too! For this reason, images are not viewed in real-time. Critiquing yourself in real-time while being photographed is never a fun thing. It slows things down and can kill the vibe if you start second-guessing yourself.
